Two Coromandel men have pleaded guilty to their part in an attack with a samurai sword earlier this year.

The pair, aged 21 and 16, had been charged with attempted murder, but that charge was dropped in the High Court in Hamilton on Friday.

Instead, the older man pleaded guilty to injuring with intent to injure by wounding, while the other pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm. They will be sentenced on 13 February next year.

The men used the samurai-style sword at a property at Matatok, south of Thames, on 28 January.

The 23-year-old man they attacked was left with serious injuries, including a broken jaw and facial lacerations.
