Road toll staying low

1:39 pm on 18 November 2013

New Zealand is on track for the lowest road toll in more than 60 years.

Two hundred and nineteen people have been killed on roads this year, 38 fewer than this time last year, and 13 less than in 1950.

The Automobile Association says while road deaths have dropped since 2010, injuries have not fallen as much and last year there were close to 12,000 hurt from road crashes.

Spokesperson Dylan Thomsen says people can still do a lot more as individuals - and as a country - to reduce the suffering from road crashes.
