The Fire Service was called two house fires in Canterbury on Saturday morning.
The first fire in Ashburton was at 4.50am. The cause is being investigated, but it is not being treated as suspicious.
Fire crews were called to a second fire in Colombo Street in Christchurch 15 minutes later, where a two-storey wooden house was ablaze.
Police are investigating how that fire started.
No one was hurt in either fire, but both houses were badly damaged.
