Police fired a shot when they went to an Auckland property on Thursday night but no-one is thought to have been hit.
Counties Manukau Police say three officers went to an address in Mangere just before 7pm to make an arrest.
They say the officers were set upon by family members of the wanted man and when a man presented what they believed was a firearm, a shot was fired.
The Armed Offenders Squad was called and one man was taken into custody while another is still wanted by police.
Police say there is no indication anyone was hit by or injured as a result of the shot from an officer's weapon.
An investigation into the circumstances of the incident is underway and the Independent Police Conduct Authority has been notified.
