Panel to lift privacy and security standards

2:15 pm on 7 November 2013

The Government has announced a panel of 21 professional security providers it says will help it to better manage potential privacy breaches.

It says Government agencies will be able to use the services of a company on the panel, such as the IT firm Datacom or auditors KPMG, to get expert advice on their security systems.

Internal Affairs Minister Chris Tremain says the panel is part of ongoing work to ensure government agencies are lifting their privacy and security standards.

He says it will be compulsory for public and non-public service departments to use the panel.

The panel was chosen through a tender process and includes a mix of New Zealand and global companies.
