New Zealanders tracked in child webcam sex sting

Four New Zealanders were among those offering to pay a 10-year-old girl to perform sexual acts in front of a webcam, a children's rights organisation has revealed.

About 1000 adults were identified in a sting by researchers from Dutch organisation Terre des Hommes who posed in chatrooms as a Filipina child called Sweetie.

Director of campaigns Hans Guyt told Radio New Zealand's Morning Report programme about 20,000 internet users offered to pay to watch a child perform sex acts on camera.

Mr Guyt said the paedophiles need to be scared off before underage webcam prostitution becomes as prevalent as child pornography on the internet.

He said Filipino children are sometimes forced by their parents to perform sex acts under the direction of a Western man.

The group has passed the details of the 1000 adults they identified to Interpol but New Zealand police say they have yet to receive details of the four New Zealanders the group said it had tracked.
