Two of New Zealand's most popular magazines have been sold to a Germany-based publisher.

The Listener and the New Zealand Woman's Weekly are among a number of magazines owned by APN which have been sold to Bauer Media.

Bauer already owns many of New Zealand's most read magazines including Woman's Day, The Australian Women's Weekly, Metro and North & South.

APN New Zealand chief executive Martin Simons says the decision reflects the company's decision to concentrate on its growth assets, particularly digital.

Bauer New Zealand chief executive Paul Dykzeul says the purchase is an opportunity to bring the benefits of an expanded portfolio to readers and advertisers.
