A young man, badly injured when he was thrown from a quad bike in the Akatarawa Valley in the Tararua ranges on Sunday morning, had to be airlifted to Wellington hospital.
A crewman on the Life Flight Trust's rescue helicopter says the man came off his bike when he hit a stationary object at a fairly high speed.
He was brought down to Akatarawa road by friends on the back of a ute.
His injuries are serious but are not thought to be life threatening.
And on Sunday afternoon, the Tauranga based rescue helicopter was called to a farm near Te Teko, after a horse kicked a man, breaking his leg.
