A man accused of targeting elderly women in a series of home invasions is facing fresh charges.

In an audio-visual link at the Auckland District Court on Thursday William John Murphy appeared on 15 charges including aggravated robbery, indecent assault and kidnapping.

During one attack in June, a 74-year-old woman was tied up and beaten in her Papakura home.

He is accused of attacking seven elderly people aged between 69 and 97 and stealing cars, hundreds of dollars, credit cards, stocks, a handbag and a pair of bed socks.

Mr Murphy was arrested after police tracked a stolen car being driven near Puhoi, north of Auckland.

At Thursday's court appearance he spoke over Judge Ema Aitken at times and at one point denied he was Williams Murphy.

He faces fresh burglary charges that relate to the same set of offending.

The 36-year old is due back in court next month.
