New Zealand teenager Lorde has de-throned some of the world's biggest pop stars to make it to the top of the US Billboard music chart.
The Aucklander from North Shore is at number one on the Hot 100 with her hit Royals, ahead of Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry.
Billboard says the ascent of Royals has been stunning, setting the mark for the longest reign in the 25-year history of the Alternative Songs chart by a lead female.
Billboard says Lorde, 16, is the youngest solo artist to perch atop the Hot 100 since Tiffany, who was also 16 when her song I Think We're Alone Now reached number one.
The father of the singer-songwriter, Vic O'Connor, says he's been walking around in a daze since he heard the news.
He says ten months ago they were just a normal family, and it's now hard to take in the significance of his daughter's success.
Mr O'Connor says the fame isn't going to her head, and she is focusing on her songwriting.
