Employment dispute case underway

1:39 pm on 1 October 2013

The latest stage of an employment dispute that has been going on for 10 years is underway in Wellington.

Radio New Zealand News former managing editor Lynne Snowdon is challenging a decision by the broadcaster to dismiss her.

The hearing in the Employment Court is also looking into accusations made by Ms Snowdon of financial mismanagement within Radio New Zealand.

Ms Snowdon took sick leave at the end of 2002 after a disagreement with then-chief executive Sharon Crosbie. She did not return to work and was dismissed in 2005.

In his opening address, lawyer Richard Fletcher told the court she is a whistleblower who referred her concerns about Radio New Zealand's use of public money to the Ombudsman, the Commerce Select Committee and the Office of the Auditor General, but these agencies did not investigate.

The case is scheduled to take at least 3½ weeks.
