Parent questions school Bible programme

9:28 am on 22 September 2013

An Auckland parent says the board of the school his daughter attends is stifling discussion of religious instruction, by not giving parents information that is critical of the classes.

Point View Primary School in Howick is reviewing its Bible class programme, but only information from the Churches Education Commission was sent home.

Paul Bennett says parents need all sides of the debate to make an informed choice about Bible classes at the public school.

He has made a leaflet with support from the Secular Education Network, which he says gives parents a fuller picture of religious instruction in New Zealand. The leaflet will be handed out to parents on Monday afternoon.

The school could not be reached for comment.
