A helicopter pilot had to use night vision goggles to airlift a man to hospital on Saturday night after a serious car accident in Kawerau.
BayTrust Rescue Helicopter pilot, Barry Vincent, said the man was trapped in the vehicle and had to be cut free.
He said the weather conditions meant challenging flying conditions, but with the aid of night vision goggles, he airlifted the man directly to Waikato hospital for treatment.
The man has multiple leg injuries and is in a serious condition.
