Petrol prices at record high

6:00 pm on 11 July 2013

Oil company BP has raised its petrol prices to a record high in New Zealand.

91 octane has risen by 4 cents a litre to $2.26.9c, while diesel has increased by 3c per litre to $1.57.9c. The rises follow last week's 7 cents a litre increase.

Another petrol company, Zed Energy, has also made the same increases.

BP spokesperson Jonty Mills said the international market has forced the new prices, which were implemented on Thursday afternoon.

Mr Mills said the company could no longer absorb the 4% rise in the global market.
