Louise Nicholas, a former advisor to the Glenn inquiry, says she does not believe the inquiry has a future, following the latest disclosure about Sir Owen.
In 2004, Sir Owen pleaded no contest to a charge of abusing a woman in Hawaii in 2002 and the charge was dismissed. He has denied any wrong-doing.
Ms Nicholas says she resigned after two top members left.
She told Morning Report Sir Owen has put the inquiry at risk by not being open about the charge and she does not believe survivors of abuse are safe to tell their stories to the inquiry.
Further comment
The South Auckland Family Violence Prevention Network says funding for the Glenn inquiry would be better spent on services for survivors of violence.
The network says there is already research available into child abuse and family violence and the inquiry should be looking at the results of that research and using its funds to support survivors.
