Methamphetamine bust near Hamilton

9:32 pm on 2 July 2013

Armed police have conducted methamphetamine drug raids in the Waikato town of Ohaupo.

A 32-year-old man has been charged with possession of methamphetamine and firearms, while a 36-year-old man faces charges related to the manufacture of the drug.

Police and ESR scientists, including a clandestine lab team, went to two properties in the town.

Police say at one address, quantities of precursor chemicals used in the manufacture of methamphetamine, also known as "P", were found.

They say Tuesday's operation, and others in the past few weeks, will have had a significant impact on the availability of the drug within the region.

Both men will appear in the Hamilton District Court.
