A former Christchurch police officer who was jailed for two years for coercing a prostitute to have sex with him has been refused bail as he awaits his appeal hearing.
Nathan Connolly, 31, was sent to prison last week and told he would not be granted home detention.
An appeal against both his conviction and his sentence will be heard in March next year.
Justice Robertson's judgment notes that former police officers are inevitably at risk in prison, but says Connolly has not proved it is in the interests of justice for bail to be granted.
Connolly was a traffic officer in Christchurch when he coerced the street worker into having sex with him in his patrol car while he was on duty, in return for not issuing her with traffic fines.
