The Sensible Sentencing Trust says it's certain to lose its charitable status after the Charities Commission said it was not meeting several of the required rules.
Trust chairman Garth McVicar says he has received a letter from commission saying the trust does not meet its criteria and is likely to be declined, which he says indicates the commission has already made its decision.
The Commission has told the Trust it is not convinced the organisation is a charity, but if it can provide more information about its activities and prove its main purpose isn't political advocacy, the application will be approved.
