The Ratana movement has called on the Government for help to improve existing houses and build 50 new homes at Ratana Pa near Wanganui.
Ratana Ahu Whenua Trust spokesperson Adrian Rurawhe told Waatea News a strategy for the development was formally handed to the Prime Minister and the Housing Minister at the weekend.
He says there have been no new housing developments available at Ratana Pa over past 20 to 25 years, forcing young people raised there to move elsewhere.
Mr Rurawhe says a number of those young people want to return, and the move will help keep the community together.
