Aucklanders show little interest in phone books

A trial allowing Aucklanders to choose whether to receive the residential White Pages phone book has seen circulation fall from nearly half a million copies to just 21,000.

The Yellow Pages Group announced in March it would stop automatically sending the directory, and people would need to request a copy.

The trial was set up after a survey showed 75% of those asked thought there should be a choice about whether to receive the phone book.

Delivery of the Yellow Pages and Business White Pages will continue as normal.

The company's sales director, Steve Traplin, says the number opting to receive copies was lower than expected.

He's confident most people were aware of the changes being made to deliveries.
