The sentencing of the man found guilty of murdering Christchurch schoolgirl Jade Bayliss has been delayed while further reports are sought by the court.
In April this year, Jeremy McLaughlin was found guilty of the 2011 murder the 13-year-old at her home.
The 35-year-old had previously been convicted of killing 14-year-old Philip Vidot in Perth, Australia, where he served six years of a 12-year prison sentence.
McLaughlin was deported back to Christchurch in 2001 and police were made aware of his history.
He had a relationship with Jade's mother, Tina Bayliss, and when that ended she sought a trespass order against him.
However because of privacy law, she was not told of McLaughlin's previous murder conviction until after he had killed her daughter.
McLaughlin was due to be sentenced on Thursday.
In a minute released on Tuesday afternoon, Justice Pankhurst says he has requested further reports in relation to McLaughlin's sentencing.
