A former west Auckland police constable accused of serious drug offences is also likely to be charged with corruption.

Peter Pakau was arrested last month and charged with 29 offences, 13 of them related to methamphetamine.

He is also accused of participating in an organised criminal group, accessing the police national database, conspiring to defeat the course of justice, conspiring to commit an aggravated robbery and theft of a motor vehicle.

Police say they intend to charge him on Friday with three counts of corruption of a law enforcement officer.

Detective Inspector Bruce Scott says the police had to get the Solicitor-General's approval to lay the latest charges.

Mr Pakau has resigned from the force and is remanded on bail.
