Taking civil proceedings to court will cost more from 1 July. The increase follows a review and consultation by the Justice Ministry.
Filing a basic civil claim in court will cost $200 instead of $169.20, while some costs will drop, such as half-day hearing fees and filing some orders.
Courts Minister Chester Borrows says the changes strike a better balance by ensuring access to justice, but also getting people to pay a reasonable amount.
The changes are expected to raise about $4 million a year.
Most of the changes will come into effect from July, but others will take more time because legislation must be amended.
Auckland lawyer Andrew Hooker believes the fee changes will make it even harder for people trying to deal with matters in court.
