A survey of police personnel shows morale dropped in the last year to a level lower than the rest of the state sector.

The internal workplace survey questioned almost three quarters of police staff about their job satisfaction, commitment, and work ethic.

Once the survey results are averaged out, the force had a score of about 63% - down from about 65%last year. The state sector benchmark is 64%.

Human resources general manager Alan Cassidy said he had been expecting a slight dip given there was significant restructuring during the past year.

He said the force is still performing much better than in 2011 and 2010.

But the Police Association says management should heed the findings or reap the consequences of declining morale.
