Police have completed a scene examination where a woman was reportedly dragged by a car along State Highway One north of Tokoroa on Saturday.
The critically injured 37-year-old is in intensive care in Waikato Hospital after being airlifted from the highway at Lichfield, between Tokoroa and Putaruru.
A stretch of the highway between Kinloch Rd and Vospers Rd was closed for several hours on Saturday afternoon but was subsequently reopened.
Police say the investigation will continue on Sunday morning. They're appealing for any witnesses of the attack to contact them.
