Ford New Zealand says the Ford Motor Company's decision to stop making cars in Australia will have a minimal effect on business here.
Ford will stop making cars in Australia in 2016, after almost 90 years, starting with the Model T.
The decision announced on Thursday is due to high production costs, the high Australian dollar and changing buying patterns.
Ford New Zealand managing director Neale Hill said the company sources only two types of Ford from Australia.
But he said it's a sad day for the company, as the Ford Falcon and Territory will no longer be available here after 2016.
