Sex offender back in jail after parole breach

An elderly sex offender jailed for what a judge has called acts of indescribable cruelty, has had his prison sentence extended after breaching parole and taking nude photos of a young girl.

Ronald Van Der Plaat was originally sent to prison for unlawful sexual connection and the rape of his daughter over a 13-year period.

After serving 10 years in jail, Van Der Plaat had to be released on parole in 2010 by law because he was sentenced under old legislation.

One of the conditions of his release was that he not be with anyone under the age of 16 unless supervised.

Van Der Plaat was recalled to jail after being caught on camera hand-in-hand with a four-year-old girl at an Auckland museum. He later admitted taking nude photos of her.

At the Waitakere District Court on Friday, Judge Pippa Sinclair said it was obvious that Van Der Plaat had groomed the girl and her mother.

Twenty-two months have been added to his sentence and he will remain in jail until August 2016.
