The salary of the Auckland mayor, the highest-paid mayor in the country, is to rise to more than $250,000 per year.
The Mayor will receive a one point five per cent pay rise under new council pay rates set by the Remuneration Authority.
The authority awarded pay rises to the chairs of Auckland's local boards, after finding their roles were more demanding than previously thought.
In one of the larger rises, the chair of the Waiheke Local Board will receive an increase of nearly 30%, to $54,000.
New rates of pay for all council politicians take effect after October's elections.
