Three serious crashes in Bay of Plenty

11:51 am on 16 April 2013

Police are urging motorists in Bay of Plenty to drive with caution following three serious crashes in the region.

A truck carrying hazardous substances rolled early on Tuesday morning, blocking one of the main routes into Tauranga and leading to nearby residents being evacuated from their homes.

Fire crews were still clearing the scene late on Tuesday morning and police were advising drivers to travel via Matamata.

A man died after his car and a truck collided just south of Putaruru, which closed a section of State Highway 1.

A woman in her 70s was killed when her moped crashed into a car in Rotorua at the intersection of Amohau Street and Ranolf Street.

And as heavy rain hits Bay of Plenty, police are asking drivers to take extreme care.
