Christchurch police have arrested and charged a 28-year-old man with breaching suppression orders in the Jesse Ryder assault case.

It relates to the publication on YouTube of video footage of two men who are charged with assaulting the cricketer in March.

The man was interviewed by police on Friday afternoon after he walked in to the central city station and has been remanded on bail to appear at the Christchurch District Court on Monday.

Police say the video footage taken using a cellphone and put on the internet was in breach of suppression orders issued by the court.

The court has prohibited the publication of the names or faces of the men, aged 20 and 37, who are charged with assaulting Ryder outside a Christchurch bar where he had been socialising with Firebirds team-mates.

The 28-year-old former Black Cap has returned home to Wellington and spent nearly a week in hospital following the attack.
