Qantas says it is still trying to identify an object that sparked a bomb scare on a plane en-route to Sydney from Auckland on Sunday.
The airline called police just after 9am after the flight crew found the package in the overhead luggage compartment, 90 minutes into the journey.
The police bomb squad and five fire crews met the plane at Auckland Airport when it returned.
Police said the package is actually part of the interior of the plane that is not normally visible.
However, a Qantas spokesperson said that is not correct and the airline is still trying to work out what the object is.
She would not say if passengers will be compensated.
The spokesperson said the plane was able to take off again just after 1pm on Sunday.
