Police are working through a list of people who own jeeps in their investigation into a roadside killing last month.
George Taiaroa, 67, was shot and killed on 19 March on Tram Road in the Kinleith Forest while directing traffic at a bridge near Atiamuri, south east of Tokoroa.
Police were earlier told of a dark coloured Cherokee jeep that slowed at the spot where Mr Taiaroa was shot.
They are looking for a blue Cherokee jeep, but are not ruling out similar colours.
