Hollywood pays out to film fan over missing explosion

A New Zealand moviegoer who complained that an explosion seen in a trailer for a Tom Cruise thriller did not make the final cut is to get his money back from a Hollywood film company.

The disgruntled viewer, identified only as J Congdon, complained to the Advertising Standards Authority that the cliff explosion in the trailer of the film Jack Reacher amounted to false advertising.

The studio, Paramount, says it is happy to refund the cost of a ticket but notes it is standard practice for Hollywood to release trailers cut weeks or months in advance of the final movie.

The authority ruled the matter settled because a ticket refund had been offered and the offending advertisement was no longer airing.
