The Transport Agency is warning motorists to expect delays between Cromwell and Queenstown until the end of May but not over Easter.
Its Central Otago area manager John Jarvis says a large amount of fractured rock is being removed from Nevis Bluff, on State Highway 6, after being assessed as a hazard to road users.
Mr Jarvis says there will usually be delays of 20 minutes but there will be a one-hour closure at midday on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.
He says there will be no delays this weekend as the work on the area will stop.
