A man is recovering in hospital after being thrown over a fence during an assault in Westport.
The police say the 65-year-old was attacked by two or more men in the early hours of Sunday morning as he was making his way home along Derby Street.
He was taken to Westport Hospital once he arrived home and the police received a complaint on Tuesday from a relative.
The man is now being treated in Christchurch Hospital for injuries to his face, including a fractured eye socket.
The police want to talk to any witnesses of the attack.
