More power bill rises

6:05 am on 8 March 2013

Power companies continue to increase their prices. Genesis Energy is the latest to announce a price rise.

North Island residential customers will pay from 4% - 6% more from April, with the average customer paying at least $100 extra per year.

Genesis said the increase is due to rising transmission and distribution costs.

Contact Energy will also increase its prices for residential customers in 16 regions from April, by an average of 5.5%.

In the Tasman district, customers face a rise of almost 10%.
