The mother of a baby murdered by her nanny 16 years ago says the woman should not have been granted parole because she is a still a threat to children.
Elizabeth Healy was sentenced to life imprisonment after a jury found her guilty of murdering 17-month-old Shae Hammond in Christchurch in January 1997.
The Parole Board said she will be released in March because her risk of re-offending is low.
The child's mother, Andrea Keats, says she is strongly opposed to parole because Elizabeth Healy has denied murdering Shae and poisoning another child.
Ms Keats told Radio New Zealand's Morning Report programme the former nanny will not have had proper help to stop her reoffending.
"She's never admitted it. How can you fix whatever that switch was that went off in her head to do that to my daughter?"
Ms Keats also says she is not confident Elizabeth Healy will stick to her parole condition to stay away from unsupervised children.
