Students in the Tasman district are working to keep predators out one of New Zealand's most popular national parks.
Pupils at Golden Bay High School and Waimea College in Richmond have been helping build a 65 km network of stoat traps in Abel Tasman National Park.
It's part of Project Janszoon a collaboration between the Department of Conservation and a privately-funded trust.
Paul Daubney the hard materials teacher at Waimea College in Richmond says his pupils wanted to be involved as it fitted with their desire to take part in community projects.
Mr Daubney says the students were very keen to support the concept behind the stoat traps.
The scheme aims to transform the national park's ecology in time for its centenary in 2042.
