The Insurance Council says the value of claims from deadly West Auckland tornado has reached $6.5 million and may climb further.
Three people died and 384 homes were damaged in the tornado which swept through Hobsonville and Whenuapai in December last year.
Council chief executive Tim Grafton said most of the damage was for home and contents. About $1.4 million was claimed for commercial property damage.
He says it will take a little longer to finish assessing all the home, contents, motor vehicle and business interuption claims.
Mr Grafton expects the total value of claims will go up slightly.
