One of New Zealand's biggest property websites says there has been a big drop in the number of people wanting to rent in central Auckland.
Statistics from TradeMe show there are more properties available, but demand has dropped by 28%.
Spokesperson Brendon Skipper says there are a number of factors for the decrease in demand, such as slightly higher rental prices.
But he says ultimately, it comes down to an increase in people wanting to buy their own homes, as the sales market in Auckland is strong.
People planning holidays and students moving home for the summer also contributed to the drop, he says.
