One person has died after a car hit a tree on the Te Anau to Milford Highway.
Police say the crash happened at about midday on Saturday just south of an area known as Knobbs Flat.
A Toyota Corolla rental car heading south from the Homer tunnel went off the road and struck a tree.
The rear seat passenger, a 61-year-old woman, died at the scene while the driver and another passenger have been transported to Invercargill Hospital.
