ACC awaits Christmas claims

3:01 pm on 25 December 2012

The Accident Compensation Corporation is bracing for another flood of claims for accidents on Christmas Day.

Just over $2 million was spent on treating and rehabilitating 3500 people injured on 25 December last year.

ACC said about half those claims were from falls in the home, including 70 from people who tripped over Christmas toys.

The corporation says the $2 million cost is just the beginning because people hurt on Christmas Day can say goodbye to their summer as they struggle to do everyday things for the six weeks.
