A man hit by a car in Christchurch in the early hours of Sunday morning has died in hospital.
The 42-year-old was struck on Breezes Road in the severely quake-damaged suburb of Aranui.
Police say they have spoken with the driver of the car, and to a number of witnesses.
Constable Pamela Cox says witnesses reported seeing the man wandering along the road, possibly in an intoxicated state, before the crash.
He had been in intensive care in Christchurch Hospital since.
Police say charges are unlikely to be laid.
