Builders blame Balclutha pool delays on faulty designs

The builders of a South Otago swimming centre say the project is eight months late because of the district council's faulty designs.

The Centennial Pool in Balclutha had been due to open in January after a $4 million upgrade, but still has no completion date.

Clutha District Council is refusing to take possession of the pool until builders fix a list of 60 faults, including the main boiler system and a leaking roof.

District mayor Bryan Cadogan says he is furious with the many delays and has run out of ideas about how to get construction firm Lund South to finish the job.

The firm's managing director, Russell Lund, says much of the unforeseen work was created by the sub-standard designs the council provided.

He says the company has thrown everything it has at the project, and only built to the plan it was given.
