An iwi health organisation says nurses are seeing up to 20 patients per session at a free health clinic at a school in Whangarei.

Kia Ora Ngatiwai Health Trust opened the clinic at Horohoro Primary School for one morning per week this winter with funding from Whanau Ora.

Nurses are seeing up to 20 patients per session.

Manager Lynette Stewart says the trust now plans to open a clinic at another Whangarei school, Totara Grove.

Horohoro principal Pat Newman says the school already provides food on demand for pupils, so it is a natural progression to take care of their health needs.
