Cadbury denies it will wind down Dunedin operation

Cadbury New Zealand is rejecting a claim it intends to wind down its Dunedin operation over the next two years, calling the claim both disappointing and irresponsible.

The blogger Cameron Slater, who runs the Whale Oil website, accused Cadbury of planning to move production to Malaysia and Australia.

But the confectionery maker says Dunedin remains a valuable part of its manufacturing network.

It says it moved production of chocolate bars to Australia in 2009 so Dunedin could focus on boxed chocolates and marshmallow products.

Cadbury says the site is making great progress and has been chosen to make several new products this year.
