Work resumes at construction site after fall

Work has resumed at a construction site where a 16-year-old worker fell from a building in central Auckland on Monday afternoon.

He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition after falling from the building in Governor Fitzroy Place. His condition previously was critical.

Fletcher Construction says the teenager, who was a sub-contractor, fell from AUT's new design and creative technologies building.

He was meant to be working on the fourth floor of the building. However a company spokesperson could not confirm which floor he fell from.

Work was suspended while investigations were carried out.

The Department of Labour says it is making preliminary inquiries and will decide later whether it will investigate the matter.

A blessing was held at the site on Tuesday morning before crews returned to work.
