Four men who complained about the treatment they received from a firm specialising in erectile dysfunction have been backed by the public health watchdog.
Health and Disability Commissioner Anthony Hillsays the Advanced Medical Institute failed the patients and must apologise.
The four unnamed men in their 50s and 70s approached the Advanced Medical Institute individually between 2007 and 2009 after seeing public advertisements.
Some were charged prices they viewed as high for treatment they either did not receive or later tried to cancel.
Mr Hill says also the men were not clinically examined adequately or given full information about the treatment or their options.
One was shocked to find himself charged $3800 for 12 months' supply of a nasal spray straight after his appointment.
Another had his credit card charged $1200 after speaking by phone with a doctor from the institute in Australia but hadn't agreed to go ahead with treatment, and waited more than a year for a refund.
The Commissioner says the firm and two unnamed doctors failed to properly assess the men, and gave them inadequate information.
