Developer sentenced for bribery

A property developer has been sentenced at the High Court in Wellington to 11 months' home detention for bribery in a case involving a former manager at the Accident Compensation Corporation.

Gregory Hutt, 54, was the director of Hi-Tech Commercial Interiors in 2007, when he agreed to construct a building in Whangarei, which was then leased by ACC.

He then sold the building and paid some of the profits to an ACC property manager who used his influence to ensure the lease.

Justice Ronald Young said Hutt had admitted the offending before a trial, but he could have pled guilty earlier.

Hutt's lawyer said his client has no prior convictions, was deeply remorseful and had repaid the money he made from the deal.
