Fairfax Australia 'reviewing' outsourcing decision

8:41 pm on 1 June 2012

Fairfax New Zealand says a decision to outsource dozens of Australian Fairfax jobs is being reviewed in Australia.

Hundreds of Australian staff at various publications, including the Sydney Morning Herald, took part in a 36-hour strike this week after Fairfax announced it is sending 66 editorial production jobs to New Zealand.

But Fairfax New Zealand executive editor Paul Thompson says details of the outsource have not been exchanged.

He says Fairfax Australia is in the process of a company consultation regarding the decision.

The content of the meeting will be passed onto the New Zealand office on Tuesday, he says.
